Chapter Seven

Seven

Sandy
Grace Cottage

“All in all,” she said encouragingly to Oliver, “I think this is going to be a great time in our life. I love the different ocean views, regardless of the window we look out. And everything looks like it is going so well for your brother. Can you believe the change in him? Anyway, I'm glad we made the journey. If I'm going to be on an island in the middle of nowhere, I'm glad it's with you.”

“Well, that's a relief,” Oliver said humorously. “Hey, I'm going into the village. I've got an appointment with the mayor. Demetrius thought he'd be a good person to start the interview process with and he'd be able to help me get to know some other key folks in this town. I'll be back by lunchtime.”

Sandy had gotten her computers and servers up and running and was pretty happy with the Internet provider, just as Oliver had promised. Business was good, and none of her customers would have even known she'd moved across country. Her suppliers didn't care where she lived, and things were going along smoothly. She was answering emails, arranging shipments and otherwise going about her business, when suddenly she felt nauseous. “What's going on?” she thought to herself after running to the bathroom for the third time in less than an hour with a stomach feeling like it was onboard one of the fishing boats she could see bobbing in the ocean. And then it hit her. “Could it be?” she wondered, immediately thinking about timing and the date on her computer screen. “Really, is it possible?” she considered. “I guess maybe it is,” she answered herself. With all the excitement of the move, setting up our new home and office, “I really haven't paid attention, but... hmmm... I am late.”

Being new in town, the last thing she wanted to do was to run into Gourmand Market and Pharmacy and get a home pregnancy test. She sure didn't need her little secret to get out to the perfect strangers in town who had their eyes on the Grace's every move. She quickly opened her browser and ordered one, paying for rush shipping.

When Oliver came home for lunch, he noticed Sandy seemed a little lighter, a bit brighter and she had made an especially good lunch for the two of them. “Hey, San,” he asked. “What's going on? You sure seem chipper today.”

Sandy is a lousy poker player, completely unable to hide her feelings or keep secrets. In fact, Oliver loved to tease her about this. “What's going on, honey, I know you. Spill it.”

“Well...” she hesitated.

“C'mon. Out with it!” Oliver demanded.

“Okay, I don't know for sure, but... I might be pregnant,” she said watching his face for a positive response.

“You might be pregnant?” came his cautious response. “Don't tease me, my heart can't take it Sandy.”

“Yup,” she said while jumping into her husband's arms and explaining what she’d discovered. “It’s not official.”

They spun around the living room as one in complete celebration and joy. She wept tears of joy and he laughed like a man whose dreams have just come true. Oliver and Sandy had long enjoyed mimicking John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John's characters from the movie Grease, and they began to sing... “You’re the one that I want” and fell into the couch laughing like children on a playground.

One thing led to another, and soon they were kissing passionately and loving one another right in the living room. Oliver whispered into his wife's ears, “I've never done this with a pregnant woman before!” Afterwards, they rested in one another's arms, and Oliver began to softly pray aloud, “God, I've never known love like this before, You've answered our prayers and hopes. Thank You; thank You for this amazing gift. I'm terrified, but I'm going to trust You will make us ready. Amen.”
